Dear members, colleagues, and friends,
As summer approaches, the Board of the French Society of Medical Mycology (SFMM) would like to extend its warmest thanks for your dedicated commitment and active participation throughout the year. Our spring conference, held in Amiens in a highly scientific yet friendly atmosphere, was the highlight of a busy 2024-25 season. Your regular attendance at our meetings, our always stimulating discussions, and your involvement in the SFMM’s various endeavors are testament to the vitality of our community. Thanks to you, medical mycology continues to progress, renew itself, and shine in both fundamental and clinical fields.
We encourage you to continue this momentum by participating in the many upcoming events: TIMM in Bilbao from September 19 to 22, the Microbes congress in Bordeaux from September 24 to 26, the Candida and candidiasis – ASM meeting in Berlin from October 6 to 9, the anatomo-pathological meetings in mycology in Lyon on October 9, but also the “Aspergillus and aspergillosis in all their forms” day on November 26 in Paris, then the RICAI in Paris on December 15 and 16. Finally, we will begin the calendar year 2026 on January 13 with our now famous symposium organized jointly with the French Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (SFPT), this time in collaboration with the French Transplantation Society (STF). From April 28th to 30th, we will then have the pleasure of being welcomed by the Marseille team for our annual conference, which will take place in the luminous Phocaean city. In the meantime, we can expect numerous scientific meetings and exciting webinars to enhance our society’s daily activities. Several working groups are also being established to serve our community in the near future. These opportunities for exchange and training are essential to bringing our specialty to life and strengthening ties between its stakeholders, even beyond medical mycology.
This pre-summer message is also an excellent opportunity to thank Françoise Botterel and the former Board of Directors, and in particular the members of her office who have dedicated themselves extensively over the past four years and who have now been replaced by newly elected members, who took office following our last general meeting. Here are the mycologists who will be serving on the board until 2029, alongside the new president, Guillaume Desoubeaux: Frédéric Dalle and Boualem Sendid as vice-presidents for research, Florent Morio as vice-president for communications, Sophie Brun as secretary general, and Lilia Hasseine and Christine Imbert as treasurer and assistant treasurer, respectively. From now on, rest assured of their full dedication alongside the board members: Jean-Pierre Gangneux, Eric Dannaoui, Arnaud Fekkar, Cécile Garnaud, Christophe Hennequin, Solène Le Gal, Nicole Desbois-Nogard, Alicia Moreno-Sabater, Anne Totet, and Françoise Botterel.
While we look forward to seeing you again soon, we wish you a wonderful, relaxing, and inspiring summer.
Go mycology and go SFMM!
Guillaume Desoubeaux and Françoise Botterel, President-elect and former President of the French Society of Medical Mycology
