The Institut Pasteur creates a Department of Mycology on November 1, 2014 under the direction of Christophe d’Enfert. It brings together the Aspergillus Unit (Jean-Paul Latgé), the Fungal Biology and Pathogenicity Unit (Christophe d’Enfert) and the Molecular Mycology Unit (Françoise Dromer), to which the CNR Mycoses Invasives et Antifongiques and the Fungal Collection are attached. The G5 Immunology of Fungal Infections led by Jessica Quintin (currently at Radboud University, The Netherlands) will join the department in spring 2015. These consolidations come at a time when fungal infections are becoming increasingly common. They compromise the care of the immunocompromised and threaten many medical advances. The objective is to create a dynamic fundamental and translational research program at the Institut Pasteur with a high national and international visibility.
