GAFFI’s mission is to fight fungal diseases worldwide. In its first 12 months of operation, GAFFI has achieved 90% of the goals it set for its first year of operation.
Public health: Estimation of the impact of fungal diseases in 33 countries; estimation of the rate of fungal lung infections after TB in HIV positive and negative patients in Africa. Fungal diagnostics: 6 anti-Aspergillus IgG were compared and a reference test was selected; work was done on the diagnosis of Pneumocystis pneumonia. Antifungal treatments: availability and costs of major antifungals were studied in 34 countries….
